Mother Petitions Against Midland Memorial Hospital

Petition for better pediatric care standards gets hundreds of supporters

MIDLAND, Texas (Local 2/Fox 24) - Midland Memorial Hospital is getting a lot of attention on social media.

A petition on the Change.org website titled, "Better Pediatric Care Standards" is now receiving hundreds of supporters.

The Midland mother behind the petition has a child who was a patient at the hospital back in December 2016.

She says her daughter received a lack of specialized training, and now she's asking parents to address the hospital's administration about their abilities to deal with critical care pediatric patients.

As of Tuesday evening the petition has more than 900 signatures and dozens of comments in support of her stance.

The petition has led to the organizing of a sit in at the hospital scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m., click here for more information.

The hospital's President Russell Meyers said he is cooperating with the plans for such an event and hopes it will be a peaceful gathering that opens the door for communication.

"We want to hear about it, people have a right to expect us to take them seriously and to act on their concerns. We won't necessarily always agree, there may be times when we think what we are doing is appropriate and we disagree. By in large our message is; if you have a concern about us tell us what it is and we will be serious about trying to fix it," said Meyers.

The hospital said  they will have their police officers at the sit-in where former patients dissatisfied with the care their children have received will have the opportunity to ask questions and get their voices heard.

Some of the issues listed on the sit-in's Facebook event page include, a boost physician recruitment, telemedicine, volunteer recruitment, and child life specialty development.
