Details surrounding the stabbing death of a Marfa ISD teacher have started to emerge thanks to a release from the Jeff Davis County Sheriff's Office.
Officials say on Friday night, JDCSO deputies were called to 424 Granado Street in Fort Davis about the stabbing.
When deputies arrived they found Daniel Merrill Sullivan who said he "believed someone had murdered his wife, and that she was in the home," according to the release.
Sullivan reportedly told deputies he had come home from work and found his wife, Sophia Eleanor Sullivan, on the floor and she appeared to be dead.
At that point, Sheriff Bill Kitts and other investigators entered the home where they found Sophia Sullivan with multiple stab wounds to her arms, side and back, according to the release.
In the meantime, investigators say that Sullivan's son was at a neighbor's home and told the neighbors that his father was responsible for Sophia's death.
Officials say Danial Sullivan's hands were swabbed at the scene and blood was found on his hands.
Furthermore, Daniel Sullivan also took a polygraph test in relation to the case and officials say he failed the test.
"Based on evidence obtained, and that Sullivan's son on three separate occasions identified his father as the one who murdered his mother, an arrest warrant was obtained by the Jeff Davis County Sheriff's Office for the arrest of Daniel Sullivan for the murder of his wife Sophia Sullivan," a statement in the release reads.
He is currently being held at the Hudspeth County Jail on a $130,000 bond.
Meanwhile, Marfa ISD is mourning the loss of Sophia, who was a teacher with the district.
In a statement posted to the district's social media account, officials called Sophia's death a "terrible tragedy."
