Man Arrested for Making False Kidnapping, Arson Reports

ODESSA, Texas (Local 2/FOX24) - A fake kidnapping and arson report lands one man in jail.

Back on March 19, Oscar Carrillo advised the Odessa Police Department he had been kidnapped at gunpoint by somebody he knew, according to a media release.

Carrillo also claimed the kidnapper told him to drive his car to the 300 block of FM 1601 and light it on fire.  He told police he was then able to escape the suspect and call law enforcement.

An OPD investigation later revealed Carrillo had intentionally set his car on fire and filed a false report to cover it up.

Carrillo was arrested and charged with arson, a second-degree felony and making a false report to an officer, a Class B Misdemeanor.
