Crews making progress, McDannald fire 77 percent contained

JEFF DAVIS COUNTY, Texas - The McDannald Fire in Jeff Davis County continues Thursday, but first responders appear to be making progress.

According to the Texas A&M Forrest Service, the fire has consumed a little more than 19,000 acres of land and is about 77 percent contained.

The fire, according to records from Wednesday, seems to have been slowed as crews continue their suppression efforts in the Davis Mountains.

However, crews are still working the scene and county officials are asking Fort Davis Water Supply and Fort Davis Estates customers to conserve water.

A voluntary evacuation is also still in place for the Davis Mountain Resort.

As you may recall, the fire began back on April 30 and the official cause is lightning, according to previous reports.

Crews have now been battling the fire for more than a week.
