Arrest Made in Murder of Pepe's T-Shirt Store Owner

ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) - Odessa Police have charged one man in connection to the murder of Pepe's T-Shirts owner, Joe Valenzuela. 

Joseph Benjamin Madden III has been charged with Capital Murder. 

On Monday, Odessa Police responded to Pepe's T-Shirt store for a medical call. After arriving officers found shop owner, Joe Valenzuela, dead with blunt force trauma to the face and multiple stab wounds to the back. 

Detectives traced the victim's phone to Desoto, Texas where the Desoto Police Department and the Texas Rangers later found the victim's vehicle. 

On Tuesday, OPD detectives reviewed surveillance video from a Love's Truck Stop, which showed the victim making contact with an unknown man who was later identified as Madden.

According to OPD, Madden had just been released from the Ector County Law Enforcement Center just 5 days earlier, on February 24. Valenzuela gave Madden a ride to 1214 West 10th Street. 

Detective obtained a murder warrant for Madden, who was located and arrested this morning in Desoto.
