WARD COUNTY, Texas (Local 2/ Fox 24) -

A Bennigan's restaurant is coming to Monahans, April 2017!

Thursday, officials broke ground on the project that's expected to bring 50 new jobs to town.

This was all because of Monahans' Mayor, David Cutbirth. He paid more than a million dollars out of his own pocket to bring the franchise to his community.

"It is an investment that brings jobs to our community.  It's an investment that brings quality of life.  So it is a fairly large investment, but the pay off is great for our community," said Cutbirth.

The 5,200 square foot restaurant will have a patio, serve lunch and dinner and offer catering.

Bennigan's Chairman and CEO, Paul Mangiamele, said it's a family friendly restaurant.

"We are very happy to be here, to grow this outstanding restaurant. I love being right on Interstate 20 because it's going to be hundreds and thousands of people coming on an annual basis," Mangiamele said.

"This is the place to be. This is the place that is growing.  This is the center of the Permian Basin. And if you want to know where the center of the Permian Basin is, it is right over here in Monahans, and you can see that because we have Bennigan's now!" Cutbirth said.
